Cook's note

The pinch of black pepper and the little bit of fat help your body make the most of the turmeric, and they round out the flavor too. For a frothy top, give the strained milk a few seconds with a whisk or milk frother before pouring. Stir before sipping, since the turmeric settles.

Method

  1. Add the milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon stick and peppercorns to a small saucepan and whisk to dissolve the turmeric.

  2. Warm over medium-low heat, whisking now and then, until steaming and just below a simmer, about .

  3. Reduce the heat to low and keep it barely steaming for so the spices infuse. Do not let it boil.

  4. Remove from the heat and whisk in the honey, coconut oil and vanilla until the oil melts.

  5. Strain into two mugs, taste and add more honey if you like, then dust with ground cinnamon.
